About Us

The National Innovator Challenge (NIC) and Independent Innovator Challenge (IIC) provide opportunities for K-12 students across the U.S. to explore and develop solutions to real-world problems. NIC is the gateway to prestigious events such as the Global Innovation Challenge, while IIC offers an independent path for students to showcase their creativity without needing prior competition qualification.

Our goal is to make innovation accessible to students of all backgrounds, supporting young innovators through mentorship, community programs, and partnerships with leading organizations. We believe in fostering creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship to empower students to become changemakers in their communities.

Our Mission

To cultivate a diverse, inclusive community of young inventors and innovators by providing equitable opportunities to develop creative problem solving skills.

Our Vision

A world where young innovators from all backgrounds create transformative solutions that drive impactful change.

Inspiring Real-World Change

The National Innovator Challenge is not just about ideas; it’s about creating real-world solutions to pressing challenges. Here are some of the incredible innovations born out of the NIC:

Adaptive Guitar (Julia & Lance Larsen):

Driven by a passion for advocacy and inspired by their personal experiences, Julia and Lance developed the Adaptive Guitar, a groundbreaking device that allows individuals with limited arm and hand mobility to play the guitar independently. Their work not only showcases the power of assistive technology but also amplifies their mission to foster a STEM identity in youth and create opportunities for all. Julia and Lance advanced to the Global Innovation Challenge, where they continued to champion the possibilities of innovation.

Sight Word Stars (Sophia Khaile):

Recognizing the critical need for early reading intervention, Sophia developed the Sight Word Stars, a project addressing literacy challenges in young learners. Her dedication to educational equity and her innovative spirit highlight the role of young people in tackling systemic problems in education.
